A decade after the school was founded in 1874, Temple University began playing organized football. Charles M. Williams, the then physical education instructor and basketball coach, prepared an 11-man team that won their first game against Philadelphia Dental College. For its first few years, the football team played small schools, with few records of its games in existence today. Through the decades there have been ups and many downs for this team, but in 2015, the Temple Owls won their Conference Division Title. During their 2015 season was the only time in the team’s history that they have ever sold out any home games - the season-opener against Penn State and the ABC primetime game against Notre Dame.
